After graduating from high school, he entered the vocational school "Tokyo Design College" after living as a ronin. After graduating, he worked as an assistant in the design department of the same school, but after half a year, he moved to a graphic design office and worked for three years before becoming an independent freelance illustrator. He is mainly known for being in charge of the cover of Seishi Yokomizo's series of works published by Kadokawa Bunko. Active as an illustrator, mainly for books, and started working as a copperplate engraver at the age of 50. We get high evaluation in foreign countries. The descriptive power of his works is excellent and astonishing, and he excels especially in the screen composition that manipulates light and shadow. Print works are said to be modern Dürer and Rembrandt. Many people liken his style to that of Caravaggio.
